The number of single-family, detached homes sold in Elmhurst
increased by 17.3 percent from 2011 to 2012, though the median sale price
dropped from about $333,250 to $321,750, according to the Mainstreet
Organization of Realtors.
That puts Elmhurst slightly behind the pace of home sales
countywide, where home sales for all of 2012 increased by 21.6 percent compare
d to 2011. According to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors, 9,531 homes
sold in DuPage County in 2012, and 7,841 in 2011. Countywide, the median sale
priced increased from $230,000 in 2011 to $236,000 in 2012.
Home sales in Elmhurst in December 2012 were flat with December
2011, with both months recording 28 sales.
“We are cautiously optimistic for 2013, but that doesn’t mean
people should wait to take advantage of this market,” said Tonya Corder,
president of Mainstreet Organization of Realtors and managing broker of Keller
Williams Preferred Realty in Orland Park. “Interest rates will rise as the
economy improves, making it more expensive to finance the purchase of a home.”
