Professional Standards

Although most real estate transactions are completed smoothly, the need for dispute resolution occasionally comes up. The Professional Standards department is an important resource for you should you have any questions or concerns regarding the Code of Ethics, its enforcement, and mediation and arbitration.®

By joining MORe, REALTORS® signify their intention to abide by the Code of Ethics, thereby enhancing the public and professional image of themselves and all other REALTORS®.  Membership in an organization of REALTORS® has been recognized as a valuable property right.  Therefore, any action by an organization that limits or denies the rights and privileges of a member must be justified, not only substantively, but also procedurally.  Due process is an essential aspect of the Professional Standards processes.  Due process is defined as the right to a full and fair hearing before an impartial tribunal with a full and complete knowledge of the charges made and with adequate opportunity to prepare a defense.

Ethics - The Professional Standards department administers three major processes.  The ethics complaint process allows consumers, as well as fellow members, to file a complaint against a member, based on unethical activity.  Keep in mind that filing an ethics complaint will not waive your contractual obligations or entitle you to monetary reimbursement.  More >

Mediation - Mediation is offered as a voluntary alternative to arbitration.  Mediation allows members involved in a commission dispute to sit down and come to an agreement on their own, rather than leaving it up to a panel of their peers.  The mediation conference is monitored by a mediator that helps the parties negotiate a settlement.  More >

Arbitration - The arbitration process is the third and final process administered by the Professional Standards department.  Arbitration allows REALTORS® involved in disputes to have their procuring cause arguments heard before a panel of their peers.  More >
