Round Lake Village Approves Residential Rental Registration/Inspection Program

Round Lake will be joining the list of Lake County communities requiring residential rental properties to register and undergo inspection. Village Trustees approved the ordinance during their October 15 meeting that will require registration of the more than 1,000 residential rental properties in Round Lake. Prior to the vote, Local Governmental Affairs Director Joe Roth spoke to REALTOR® concerns with these types of program; including problems with inconsistent standards and endless cycles of inspections. Despite the concerns, Trustees voted to move forward with the program. However, Trustees clearly indicated their willingness to work with REALTORS® to address concerns and ensure the program is effective for everyone.

Under the new program, registrations will be renewed annually, and inspections will be required upon initial registration and at every change of tenant. The applications are now available on the village website.
