Ethics & Professionalism

Code of Ethics

The REALTOR® Code of Ethics is an important and unique factor that distinguishes REALTORS® from other real estate professionals. It’s the backbone of what the REALTOR® brand is built on, and for good reason. The Code defines a higher level of professionalism and behavior in your duties to customers, the public, and to your fellow REALTORS® over licensees.

The Code in Multiple Languages

Downloadable files of the Code of Ethics in thirteen different languages.

Mandatory Ethics Training

REALTORS® are required to complete training on the Code every three years.

Focus on Professionalism

Your clients count on you to work with their best interests in mind; other agents rely on you to remain honest and ethical before, during, and after transactions; and the public has an expectation that you’ll be fair and honest when communicating with them. It’s important that you familiarize yourself with the Code of Ethics and how it affects the way you do business. Mainstreet has compiled real life case files related to the most common violations to help you better understand the interpretations of the Code.

How the Code and Professionalism Go Hand-in-Hand

While the Code establishes ethical standards, it doesn’t address courtesy or etiquette with fellow REALTORS®, the public, peers, or property. The Pathways to Professionalism was created to address the areas of professional courtesy that go beyond the Code of Ethics. The Pathways to Professionalism video serves as a reminder of the courtesies and professionalism we should demonstrate daily to the public we serve, the properties we represent and our fellow valued REALTORS®.
