Mainstreet REALTOR® Doug Carpenter Named 2020 Illinois REALTOR® of the Year

In January, Mainstreet REALTOR® Doug Carpenter was named the 2020 Illinois REALTOR® of the Year by the Illinois REALTORS®. He is with Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group in Mokena and holds a managing broker license. Carpenter served as president of Illinois REALTORS® in 2017.

This award is presented annually to an Illinois agent who best exemplifies the professional qualities of a REALTOR®. The award recognizes leadership in the Illinois REALTORS® association as well as service to civic, community and charitable causes.

Carpenter has been part of the industry since 1985. During that time, he has served as president of the South/Southwest Association of REALTORS® (now part of Mainstreet), as co-president of Mainstreet and as CEO of Three Rivers Association of REALTORS®. He’s also a member of both the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors and the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors. As a member of Mainstreet, he’s won the Key Award honoring his commitment to the real estate industry.

“We’re proud that Doug has been honored for his good work as a REALTOR® and member of the local community,” Mainstreet CEO John Gormley said. “His dedication to real estate education is a prime example of how he has worked to advance our industry and help other REALTORS® succeed.”

This is far from the first time that Carpenter has been recognized for his long career. In 2009, he was honored with the Illinois REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award, and in 2019 with the Presidential Medallion. In 2002, he became the first REALTOR® from Illinois to become part of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Hall of Fame thanks to his financial contributions to the organization.

Carpenter has always focused on REALTOR® education, and he served as president of the Real Estate Educational Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois, in 2009 and 2010.

Carpenter is a native of Rockford, Illinois, and graduated from Harlem High School. In his local community, Carpenter raises money for the American Cancer Society and is active in his church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn, where he has served as senior organist.

Carpenter will be honored at an April 20th banquet in Springfield.
