Creating Your Business Plan

Are you organized? Do you like to have everything planned out for the next week, month, year? If you answered yes, a business plan is for you! And if you answered no, a business plan is also for you! Everyone can benefit from creating a plan for themselves or their office to stay organized and hold themselves accountable for their future. In December, Mainstreet President, Brian Kwilosz, will be the speaker at the Coffee & Conversation: Business Planning at our offices in Tinley Park, Downers Grove, and Libertyville. I sat down with Brian to get a little sneak peek about this upcoming topic, and trust me, you will not want to miss out!

Just like beginning any project, one of the first questions that comes to mind is, “Where do I start?” Creating a business plan can be a daunting task especially when you are looking at the next year, where do you even begin?! Start at the end and work backwards. What do you want to accomplish next year? How much do you want to make? Find that number that you want to hit, whether it’s a dollar amount, number of properties sold, or any goal, and then ask yourself how you will achieve that goal.

“We all can improve,” Kwilosz said. Whether it is improving on time blocking or prospecting clients, improvement can always be made. You might think that you are doing great with sales, networking, meeting new clients, and the whole nine yards, and you probably are, but is it a coincidence? Often times, REALTORS® aim for nothing but then hit their target, thinking that it can happen all the time. But why not create your blue print for what you want to accomplish, so room for error decreases and you aren’t constantly wondering how you will get from point A to point B. Brian quoted Hall of Fame Baseball catcher, Yogi Berra with, “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” Stop chasing your next transaction, map it out, and create a business plan.

You can learn more about business plans and can ask Brian about tips about business planning at the next Coffee & Conversations on Dec. 5th at our Tinley Park Office, Dec. 9th at our Downers Grove Office, and Dec. 12th at our Libertyville Office.
